Though people usually think of the Grand Strand as a strictly summer destination, but the fun doesn’t stop in Myrtle Beach! In fact, the winter season offers just as many exciting events in the cooler months, especially if you’re trying to get in the holiday spirit! We want to welcome all of our late-year guests by highlighting some of our very favorite winter activities that keep Myrtle Beach exciting into the new year.
The Great Christmas Light Show in North Myrtle Beach is a yearly tradition that continues to impress families yearly, whether they are newcomers or return guests! Located in the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex, this 2 mile drive features over 2 million lights in a park-wide celebration of the season. With over 500 light displays, animated figures and more, this promises to be a wonderful evening for the whole family. Don’t forget to visit Santa’s Village after the drive, where you can enjoy hot chocolate and s’mores, get an up close look at the lights on the Santa Express Train Ride, and, of course, meet Santa!
Ripley’s Aquarium is getting in on the holiday fun as well, with their annual Festival of Trees! This exhibit celebrates the diverse heritage of the country, with each of the 55 states and territories represented by its own specially-designed tree. Be sure to check out the South Carolina tree, with seashells, golf balls and more!
In nearby Murrells Inlet, Brookgreen Gardens will be offering its own beautiful lightshow, set against the scenic backrop that only Brookgreen Gardens can provide. The Nights of a Thousand Candles sees the Gardens come to life with more than 2,800 candles and various light displays throughout. Walk at your own pace through the Gardens, taking in warm cider or cocoa, all while listening to the sounds of your favorite holiday music. Tickets will go fast for this event, so be sure to grab them quickly!
For holiday spirit in the form of live entertainment, The Carolina Opry continues to provide nightly fun with the Christmas Show of the South. Voted one of the top attractions in Myrtle Beach, The Carolina Opry presents the 36th annual iteration of this fantastic holiday show. Featuring an entire theater transformed into a winter wonderland, Delvin Choice of NBC’s The Voice, the All That clogging group featured on America’s Got Talent, and more, this show promises one of the best holiday experiences on the Grand Strand. Tickets are in high demand, so act fast!
